Network Engineer

Principal Function:

The design, configuration, implementation and support of NetCarrier’s internal and customer networks. The Network Engineer acts as a subject matter expert on technical configurations and builds specifically as they apply to customer installations. The position also serves as Tier 3 support, handling escalations from Technical Support and Network Operations.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Equipment programming, configuration and maintenance (IADs, edge routers, switches, firewalls)
• Perform customer circuit engineering and provisioning
• Assist the Circuit Design group with troubleshooting and acceptance of new circuits (Fiber, Broadband)
• Network management, monitoring and intermediate level troubleshooting
• Supports Call Center and Network Operations
• 24×7 Rotational on call emergency maintenance and trouble ticket support as Tier 3 escalation
• Perform administration and assignment of public IP addressing
• Responsible for network security and firewall provisioning
• Participate in network architecture design
• Perform research and cost analysis of network equipment
• Perform on and off-site network equipment installs
• Maintain network equipment and spares inventory
• Document and disseminate network configuration standards and practices
• Support customer installations (co-location and on-site)
• Internal LAN maintenance
• Special duties as required
• Work and conduct business as a team member of NetCarrier, Inc

Status and Scope:

• This position reports directly to the manager of Network Engineering.
• The Network Engineer works closely with the Call Center, Network Operations, Voice Engineering, Provisioning, and IT Departments.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 3-5 years related professional work experience
• Education: Computer Science Degree or equivalent training required / CCNA or equivalent required
• Strong knowledge of Cisco IOS, Adtran IOS, IP, DS3, SIP, VLAN, Switching, Gigabit-Ethernet, SONET, OC3/12/48/192
• Knowledge of Hosted PBX platforms a plus
• Knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, RIP, HSRP, OSPF, etc…), as well as MPLS, VPN, ACLs, firewalls
